When we moved in, we had a list 10 miles long of must-do projects. This one was close to the top! We debated getting new doors, but decided to re-imagine the existing doors. Turned out to be a good call.
We replaced the ornate glass panes with standard glass panes.
The ornate panes would go to a new home and be well-loved.
We used electrical tape to mock up a couple of our favorite designs and then lived with them for awhile.
While The Hardwood Co installed and finished white oak herringbone in the foyer, we went back and forth about which grid design we liked best on the doors.
The simple, horizontal design won and Tom set to work installing the muntins.
We love the way it turned out! And we saved so much money on this project, too! It would have cost about $10,000 for a new set of doors, but this little solution just cost about $400. That’s a lot of bang for our buck and a design we are thrilled with—it complements the white oak herringbone floors in the foyer and our front porch so well. It’s coming together, little by little!
