What is decision fatigue and how can our design calls alleviate it?

Making your home a haven for your family is no simple task. While you’re running kids to baseball practice, working your fingers to the bone on that big project at work, grabbing the groceries and making sure everyone has clean socks for school, your home and its design can fall to the bottom of the priority list. It’s understandable. Who has time to pick out new bedding, much less pull together a design scheme to make that family room the perfect mix of functionality and style? The decision fatigue we experience can keep us from pulling the trigger on design choices and purchases. There are just too many options and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But maximizing your home’s potential and creating relaxing spaces for your family to come home to is important. Instead of becoming another stressor, home can be a place you never want to leave. But, making your house a home takes time. Scheduling a virtual design call with me can help you take the guesswork out of designing a room that’s optimized for your family’s enjoyment. You’ll leave our FaceTime call armed with a plan and a list of sources. With different virtual design call options to choose from, you can tackle everything from styling and the final touches to hard finishes like plumbing fixtures and carpentry. Take a look at some of our past projects below to see how we helped homeowners take under-used spaces and make them into rooms that their families couldn’t wait to come home to.

This 1895 stunner of a home had a front room that was used as a catch all until we came along and helped create a stylish and often-used office space.

With the floors refinished, a new rug and furniture…along with styled bookcases, this space was finally becoming a cohesive and relaxing place to unwind.

Always one to try different options, we moved this desk and desk chair in for an alternate look. Those built-in bookshelves and storage against the back wall added style and function.

This room was used to store odds and ends, but we turned it into a room that could be used daily as an office and sanctuary for this busy family. The area rug and greenery gave this room a softness and texture that made it inviting.

A mantle is a perfect canvas for changing up the look according to the season. This was the Christmas mantle the year this room was completed. This old world fireplace was a focal point for the room and gave us a perfect spot to style and update.

We were so excited that the homeowner wanted to go in a really new direction with the design scheme. Light and bright would transform this space.

The cozy factor is important. We planned to keep that in mind with the new design and asked questions of the homeowners like “how would you like to feel when you’re in this room?”, “what do you do while in this room? how do you use it?” and “what’s important for us to know about this room?”.

Tom built this art ledge—it one of our favorite additions to the room. Add in some brass, leather and texture galore and we’re in heaven.

I wanted a space that inspired our boys to dream, create and read. Their small room was a hot mess and they never wanted to be in it. I worked with @2540loveandco and her usual awesome self helped bring that vision to life. I had my heart set on some dreamy built in bunks but knowing I was on a major budget, she talked me off the ledge and I love her for it.

Here’s the front door before we rearranged the layout a little. Ok , maybe not a little…we might have taken down a wall or two.

Jessica made the overwhelming task of updating our home less intimidating. She offered invaluable advice, opinions, and options with thoughtfulness. She was so kind, detail-oriented, and happy to answer any question I posed. After our initial call, she sent a follow-up email with an overview of our discussion, additional advice, picture inspirations, and answered questions concerning the little details which I didn’t think to ask. She was a pleasure to work with and I look forward to continuing to work with her in the future when we tackle interior projects

Jessica was able to help us in a pinch with her virtual services when we were trying to decide on our hardwood flooring for our house. She went above and beyond to help us and was extremely knowledgeable and great to talk to! We are so appreciative of her guidance and the examples she was able to provide. I highly recommend her virtual services!
