During our 1970s home renovation, we upgraded the facade of our home with an addition to our porch. As expected, this required some patching of shingles. There was one glaring problem that even caught my attention from the street! The patched area was literally all I could see!! Every time I pulled into my own driveway I cringed. I absolutely love every detail of our transformation, but that roof!! It stuck out like a sore thumb. Watch the process unfold in the photos below and cringe with me.

We thought our only option was to replace the front part of our roof (to the tune of $10k!!!)…until Tom’s childhood friend from New Jersey came to visit and told us about his brother’s business. They clean roofs! We didn’t even know this was a thing!

We googled roof cleaners in our area and sure enough, we found someone who does it! It’s as if a whole new option was suddenly available to us and we were pumped! They tested it and we decided to risk the $550 and try it.

We are so happy with the results. We no longer have an awkwardly mismatched patch on our roof! And to think we almost spent $10k to replace it. Shudder.

The moment we realized we hadn’t blown our vacation fund on a new roof.

Moral of the story is: Don’t spend $10K to replace a perfectly good roof when you can have it cleaned for $550.
