You know that grandma chic trend that’s happening? I think it’s one of those things you either love or hate and Cline and I are on the love end of it. We knew we wanted creamy neutral walls in her room, but wanted to add a little something extra. We went a little darker on her trim using Accessible Beige on her trim and doors, but still wanted to bring a little moodiness into her room.
I ordered samples from Hygge and West and we narrowed them down from there. Since we ended up painting her custom closet that Tom built Sherwin Williams Ripe Olive, we ruled out the green and navy options. We narrowed it down to Ebony and Sable and ended up going with Sable.
Our narrowed down selections: Ebony (above) and Sable (below) from Hygge and West. Sable won out for our grandma chic look.
We wanted to do something a little unexpected and fun so we opted to put the wallpaper on her ceiling. The ceilings were textured when we moved into the house, so we had to skim coat the ceilings to get them smooth before the wallpaper could be installed.
We hired out the wallpaper installation—I didn’t think my arms could handle it! But the wallpaper hangers were pros and were in and out in a couple of hours. I’d say that’s money well spent.
I’m not planning to do wallpaper anywhere else in the house, but wanted to gift Cline a room with a moody grandma chic vibe. We’re grateful to Hygge and West for the gift of the wallpaper and really couldn’t love it more. Cline is head over heels. I’m in love. The boys…not so much.
Her room is certainly not styled yet, and I didn’t even make the bed for ya. Sorry! We have so much more to go in this house but….baby steps, right? Home takes time.
